Sons Interiores / Interior dos Sons - uma alquimia doméstica
Sons Interiores / Interior dos Sons - uma alquimia doméstica
Filipe Esteves
This work can be considered the counterpart of my first monographic CD, published in 2021, entitled Sul e Sueste (South and Southeast). While the motto for that CD was the city's ‘soundscape’, the idea for this one emerged from the domestic environment, based on the intentional listening to sound sources that tend to be obliterated or ignored in everyday life, either because they are almost inaudible or because of their permanence and vulgarity.
Thus, all the sound materials used in each of the pieces in this set derive from sources found at home; however, because they have been subjected to various types of processing, their causes are perceived in a reminiscent way, remaining vague and ambiguous.
Each composition is the result of an alchemy that seeks to transcend the ‘simple’ articulation/transmutation of its sound materials to form a singular, imaginary acoustic universe...

He graduated in Composition from the Lisbon School of Music, where he was a student of António Pinho Vargas, João Madureira, Luís Tinoco, Sérgio Azevedo, Carlos Caires (musical informatics) and José Luís Ferreira (electronic music). At the same time, he attended workshops and conferences on musical composition and electronic music under the direction of leading composers/researchers such as: Agostino Di Scipio, Barry Truax, Eduardo Reck Miranda, Emmanuel Nunes. John Chowning, Miguel Azguime, Simon Emmerson, Takayuki Rai, Flô Menezes, etc.
His musical output, which includes instrumental and acousmatic music, has been performed by various ensembles and loudspeaker ‘orchestras’ in Portugal and abroad.
In 2018, the first version of his acousmatic piece Sul e Sueste - Gare was selected for the anthological CD of the International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music (Beijing meeting).
